5 STEPS TO MENTAL WELLBEING

Mental Health Awareness Week 2019 – 13-17 May

As our Members know, NFDC is committed to Building Mental Health in the demolition industry and has embarked on a number of initiatives to support this as a key priority.

We can now reveal that Demo Expo 2019 will host a Mental Health and Wellbeing Open Day delivered by Vector Equilibrium and the new Mental Health and Wellbeing programmes for Managers and Ambassadors will soon be available.

In the meantime, take a look at the 5 Steps to Mental Wellbeing below, kindly shared with us this week by expert Dave Price, of Vector Equilibrium, who is also NFDC’s advisor on this key area and the co-developer of our new Mental Health and Wellbeing Programme.

  • Step 1: Connect
Connect with the people around you: your family, friends and colleagues. Spend time developing these relationships.
  • Step 2: Keep Learning
Learning new skills can give you a sense of achievement and a new confidence. So why not sign up for a new course, start learning to play a musical instrument, pick up a crossword or explore new things.
  • Step 3: Give to Others
Even the smallest act can count, whether it’s a smile, a thank you or a kind word. Larger acts can improve your mental wellbeing and help you build new social networks.
  • Step 4 – Be Active
You don’t have to go to the gym. Take a walk, go cycling or play a game of football. Find an activity that you enjoy and make it a part of your life
  • Step 5 – Be Mindful
Be more aware of the present moment, including your thoughts and feelings, your body and the world around you. It can positively change the way you feel about life and how you approach challenges.

Please do share these steps with your employees and take care of yourselves and each other. Keep a look-out for our 10 Habits to Keep Your Brain Healthy, coming later during this Mental Health Awareness Week.
